I searched for the Mimaki CJV150-160 price, compared large-format inkjet printers, and still approved a Mimaki textile printer. Here is why deadline certainty mattered more than the cheapest quote.

I manage purchasing for a 60-person decor and soft-goods company. I process 60 to 80 purchase orders a year, report to operations and finance, and learned the hard way that a price list is not a project plan. The search term 'inkjet printer large' is not useful by itself. For one buyer, large means a 13-inch plotter. For us, large means a roll-fed production machine. Printhead reliability, roll handling, color stability over long runs, and service access matter just as much.

The Inkjet Refillable Printer Idea Deserves Nuance

I am not against an inkjet refillable printer. In many offices, refillable ink systems reduce consumable cost per page and cut cartridge waste. But an inkjet refillable printer is built for intermittent use. It does not provide a 64-inch roll path, production-speed printing, or the maintenance workflow of an industrial machine. Refillable ink solves one line of the cost sheet, not the whole production plan.

Deadline Uncertainty Is a Hidden Cost

In March 2024, I paid $750 for rush production because an outside supplier missed a Tuesday promise. The order itself was worth about $14,000. The rush charge annoyed me, but the alternative was worse. Would I buy the cheapest production printer again? No. I would buy the one with the clearest path from press to delivery. For our business, that path went through a Mimaki textile printer. Your path may go elsewhere. But the next time someone asks me whether an extra cost is worth it, I will ask what losing a deadline would cost. That number is almost always bigger than the machine price.
