If you're serious about buying a Mimaki, you've probably searched "mimaki jfx600 price," then "mimaki ujf-6042 price," and ended up more confused than before. That's not your fault. Most equipment articles treat printers like linear choices: compare specs, pick a winner, done. In reality, the right answer depends on what you'll actually run through the machine on a random Tuesday.
I handle equipment purchasing for a mid-size print and sign operation. I manage roughly 50 orders a year for printers, cutters, ink, parts, and service contracts. When I took over equipment buying in 2021, I assumed the highest-throughput machine was the smartest choice. More speed, more capability, more room to grow. There Is No Best Mimaki—There's a Right One for Your Workflow

Scenario 1: Small-Batch Rigid Media → Mimaki UJF-6042
The UJF-6042 is a compact UV flatbed printer. It's designed for rigid items—acrylic, wood, metal, polycarbonate, even phone cases. It has a vacuum table to hold parts down, and it can print white ink, which is essential for clear substrates and promotional products. For short runs, it's easy to set up because you don't have to reconfigure an entire roll-fed line.
As of January 2025, new UJF-6042 quotes from authorized dealers that I've seen land in the $55,000 to $75,000 range. That's not an official list price. Verify it with a certified Mimaki dealer. Also remember the machine is only part of the total cost: installation, training, ventilation, ink, test media, and the time it takes to dial in color profiles all count.
Here's the counterintuitive part: if you're only printing three or four hours a day, don't buy it. I know a shop that bought one after landing a single promo-products client. When that client moved to a bigger national supplier, the UJF-6042 sat idle for most of the week. They would have been better off paying a local print shop for those jobs, even though the per-piece cost looked higher.
Scenario 2: High-Volume Rigid Sheets → Mimaki JFX600
If you're printing large panels—ACM, dibond, foam board, corrugated plastic—the UJF-6042's bed is too small. That's where the JFX600 line comes in. The JFX600-2513 is a production flatbed with a much bigger table and faster throughput. It's not a starter machine; it's a machine you staff around, schedule around, and keep busy.
JFX600 price, as of January 2025? New configurations are usually quoted between $140,000 and $180,000, depending on ink set, options, and installation. Again, that's from dealer conversations, not an official price sheet. If a quote looks low, ask what's excluded. Some quotes arrive without training, spare parts, or a spare printhead budget.
The JFX600 only makes sense when your flatbed workload is steady. If you have 40-plus large-format jobs per month and a front end that can keep sales moving, it becomes a workhorse. If you're buying it on the strength of a few promising conversations, you're buying a monthly payment based on hope. In my opinion, that's the riskiest equipment purchase a shop can make.
Scenario 3: Garment Decoration → Quality DTF Printer or a Dedicated DTG Manufacturer
Garment decorators often search for a "quality DTF printer" and assume any white-ink printer will work. It won't. DTF is a workflow: printer, film, adhesive powder, heat press. If one step is weak, the final transfer is less bright or less durable.
Mimaki's DTF option, the TxF300-75, is the one I see most often in serious shops. It's made for DTF film and addresses the two issues that kill budget DTF setups: white ink circulation and consistent film feeding. Consistent white ink laydown is what separates a quality DTF print from something that looks faded after a few washes.
If a client wants a soft feel on 100% cotton and you're prepared to run a proper pre-treatment line, DTG is still a strong route. But here's the boundary I keep coming back to: I'd rather match the technology to the specialist. For a dedicated DTG operation, work with a DTG printer manufacturer that lives in that space. The sales team will have better answers for pretreat, aftermarket consumables, and service. It doesn't make the other machine bad. It makes it the wrong tool for that specific lane.
Scenario 4: Still Testing → XTool UV DTF Printer
This is the scenario many buyers refuse to accept: you're not ready for a production printer yet.
If you're a one-person operation, a side business, or a sign shop that wants to test garment and label transfers without a six-figure commitment, an XTool UV DTF printer can be a useful stepping stone. It won't replace a Mimaki UJF-6042 or a JFX600. Don't compare them with that expectation. Treat the XTool unit as a way to learn the workflow, print small batches of decals and transfers, and generate a little cash while you confirm real demand.
I've seen small shops use an XTool UV DTF printer to build up orders for a few months, then roll that experience into a larger flatbed or DTF system. That's a legitimate path—if you treat the small machine as training, not as your final destination.
How to Know Which Scenario You're In
If you're still not sure, answer these four questions:
- What's your main substrate? Rigid promotional parts point to the UJF-6042. Large rigid sheets point to the JFX600. Film transfers point to a DTF setup. Cotton garments with pretreat point to a dedicated DTG line.
- How many billable hours will the machine run per week? Under 15 or 20 hours? Keep your capital and use a service bureau.
- Who will run it? If you don't have someone comfortable with profiles, maintenance, and troubleshooting, the machine's best features don't matter.
- What does the quote actually include? A complete quote includes delivery, installation, training, ink, media, and spare parts. A bare-box quote is not a comparison.
Get quotes from at least two certified Mimaki dealers. Ask them to help you build a utilization plan, not just a payment schedule. The right machine isn't the one with the most impressive demo. It's the one that's still running at 80% utilization a year later. I learned that lesson the expensive way.
